Fire risk assessments for factories and warehouses

For manufacturers, distribution operators and industrial landlords.

Your duty

What the law asks of the Responsible Person.

Industrial premises bring together the things that make fires start and spread: processes that generate heat, stored goods, packaging, dust, flammable liquids and gases, and charging for forklifts and other equipment. The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires all of it to be assessed.

Where dangerous substances or explosive atmospheres are present, the Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002 also apply, and the fire risk assessment needs to take account of the DSEAR assessment.

The guidance we work to

The HM Government guide Fire safety risk assessment: factories and warehouses, BS 9999, and the Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002.

Every assessment follows PAS 79, is carried out on site by a registered fire risk assessor, and sets out each action with a priority and a timescale.

Do you carry out DSEAR assessments?

The fire risk assessment takes account of dangerous substances, and we will say clearly where a separate DSEAR assessment is needed or where the existing one needs reviewing.

Can you assess a site while it is operating?

Yes. Most industrial assessments are carried out during normal operation, so we can see the processes as they run, and we plan the visit around your safety rules on site.
