What is a competent person for a school?
Regulation 7 of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 requires every employer, including a school's employer, to appoint one or more competent persons to help it meet its health and safety duties. Many schools appoint an external adviser to fill that role. We act as the appointed competent person for 25 schools.
Who keeps the legal duty?
The employer does: the Local Authority, the trust or the Governing Body, depending on the type of school. Appointing a competent person is part of meeting that duty. We give the advice, do the agreed work and keep the evidence.
How often do you visit?
Visit frequency is agreed at the start, and every visit follows a planned programme so the year's checks and reviews are spread across it.
What happens between visits?
You can call or email for advice at any time, and urgent matters such as an accident, an inspection or a contractor problem are dealt with as they arise.
Do you work with trusts and federations?
Yes. We support single schools, federations and trusts, with documents written for each school and a consistent approach across the group.
Where are your schools?
We support schools nationwide. Many of our schools are in Hillingdon, Harrow and Ealing, with others in Buckinghamshire and south London.
