First Aid at Work

FAA Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF)

Workplace first aiders, where your first aid needs assessment calls for a full First Aid at Work qualification.

  • The role of the first aider and managing an incident
  • CPR and the use of a defibrillator
  • Choking, bleeding and shock
  • Fractures, head, spinal and chest injuries
  • Burns, eye injuries and poisoning
  • Anaphylaxis, heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma and diabetes

Emergency First Aid at Work

FAA Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF)

Emergency first aiders in lower risk workplaces, who give immediate care until help arrives.

  • The role of the first aider and managing an incident

  • The unresponsive casualty and the recovery position
  • Choking, bleeding and shock
  • Minor injuries, burns and scalds

Emergency Paediatric First Aid

FAA Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid

School, nursery and childcare staff, and anyone caring for babies and young children.

  • Infant and child CPR
  • Choking in babies and children

  • Minor injuries in children

Basic Life Support

FAA Level 2 Award in Basic Life Support

Any member of staff who should be able to respond to a cardiac arrest.

Which course do we need?

The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 require every employer to assess its first aid needs and provide enough trained people for its work and workforce.

Lower risk workplaces can often rely on emergency first aiders. Larger or higher risk workplaces usually need first aiders trained to First Aid at Work level. If you are not sure, ask us and we will advise.

How long does a certificate last?

First Aid at Work and Emergency First Aid at Work certificates are valid for three years. HSE strongly recommends a short refresher each year in between.

Does Emergency Paediatric First Aid meet the early years requirement?

Not on its own. The early years foundation stage requires at least one person with a full paediatric first aid certificate on the premises whenever children are present. The emergency course suits other staff.
